Advancing peace and democracy takes community.

IGLI helps activists and researchers build one.

Traditional approaches to building peace and democracy are failing. Wars continue, authoritarianism is spreading, and the climate crisis accelerates. We cannot rely on the same strategies that created these crises to solve them.

This perilous moment demands bold alternatives. We must tackle the root causes of violence and inequality across the globe, while offering alternative pathways towards safety, dignity, and wellbeing for all.

Feminist activists are already building and spearheading these pathways – they show us that another way is not just aspirational; it is already in motion.

IGLI connects and supports feminist activists worldwide who are defending democracy and demanding peace, while building public understanding and power to advance bold, sustainable approaches to peace, democracy, and human rights.

Our Network spans 45+ countries and bridges movements, academia, policymaking, and advocacy.

What We Do

Bridging Research, Movements, and Social Change.

IGLI’s unique contribution lies in building networks and serving as a hub for cutting-edge research and education. By strengthening both movements and their public support, IGLI amplifies emergent solutions that center justice, care, and wellbeing — creating a more connected, effective, and sustainable path to peace for all.

Our work focuses on:

  • Connecting activists across struggles and borders to share knowledge and strengthen movements;

  • Breaking down silos between movements, academics, and the public to build collective power;

  • Educating communities about women’s leadership in bottom-up struggles for democracy and peace; and

  • Publishing research that illuminates pathways to peace, democracy, and a sustainable planet.

“Without community, there is no liberation, only the most vulnerable and temporary armistice between an individual and her oppression. But community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretense that these differences do not exist. ”

— Audre Lorde, “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House”
